THE RAJIV GANDHI SEA link or BANDRA WORLI sea link consists of so much steel wires that it can cover the entire circumference of the earth .There total of 8 lanes in this Bandra Worli Sea Links of which 1st four of them were opened on 30th June 2009 and all eight were opened on 24th March 2010.
The total cost of constructing this bridge was Rs 16 billion ( US$250 million) bridge which was commissioned by the MAHARASTRA STATE ROAD CORPORATION and build by the Hindustan Construction company.
50000 African Elephants weight is equivalent to the weight of this link.
The main advantage of this sea link is that it reduces the travel time between Bandra and Worlinin peak hours to 20-30 minutes from 60-90 minutes .It has the capacity to hold the weight of 37500vehicles traffic per day . The bridge is constructed using 90000tonnes of Cement which is equivalent to the construction of five 10 storeys building each.
Even the Qutb Minar is 63 times shorter than Bandra worli sea link.
The bridge is stretched from western suburbs of Mumbai to Southern Mumbai
