Kitzbuhel located in Kitzbuhel Alps of Tyrol, Austria on the Kitzbuheler Ache river is a tiny primitive valley town with a population of 8000 people approximately. Kitzbuhel is split into different districts namely Am Horn, Aschbachbichl, Badhaussiedlung, Bichlach, Ecking, Felseneck, Griesenau, Griesenauweg, Gundhabing, Hagstein, Hausstatt, Henntal, Jodlfeld, Kaps, Muhlau, Obernau,Schattberg, Seereith, Siedlung Frieden, Am Sonnberg, Sonnenhoffeld, Staudach, Stockerdorfl and Zephirau. It is surrounded by areas of Aurach bei Kitzbuhel, Jochberg, Kirchberg in Tirol, Oberndorf in Tirol, Reith bei Kitzbuhel, St. Johann in Tirol and Fieberbrunn. Kitzbuhel was founded around 15 BC by the Romans during the reign of Emperor Augustus when Bavarii settled in the Kitzbuhel region by clearing the forests after defeating the Roman Empire. Bavarian Emperors ruled the area till 1342 as it was gifted to Margaret, Countess of Tyrol (Louis V) on the eve of his marriage with the Bavarian. The region was protected with huge defensive walls. It was returned to Bavaria after the Peace of Scharding in the year 1369 on Louis’s death. It became a portion of Tyrol permanently on 30th June, 1504. Kitzbuhel remained unaffected from the wars of 18th and 19th centuries. It became a part of the Austrian monarchy in 1918. Kitzbuhel is a member of the Climate Alliance of Tyrol since 2000. Kitzbuhel is internationally renowned for its ski racing. Its first ski race was held in 1894 flourishing its tourism and sport. Kitzbuhel was placed on the map by ErnstHinterseer, Hias Leitner, Anderl Molterer, Christian Pravda, Fritz Huber Jr. and Toni Sailer. Kitzbuhel is full of eminent personalities in all fields of arts, culture and science. Alfons Walde, Hias Lietner , Georg Hochfilzer, Jorg Friedrich and many more are among them. It is the best known winter sports resorts of Austria. Kitzbuhel hosts a number of annual events year such as ATP tennis tournament in summer and Kitzbuheler Alpenrallye festival. It possesses 56 cableways and lift facilities, 168 km of slopes and 40km of skiing tracks for visitors and tourists. Many international races are held at Hahnenkamm of Kitzbuhel every year.
