Pinwheel Flower

  • Scientific Name : –Tabernaemontana Divaricata
  • Also known as Crape Jasmine, Milky flower (because it’s stem has white liquid which looks like milk.)
  • Commonly found in South East Asia – tropical region.
  • It is under Apocynaceae family.
  • Each Flower has 5 petaled pinwheels, that’s why it is also known as pinwheel flower.
  • Tabernaemontana divaricata blooms through out all year but specially in spring.
  • The flower has no smell.
  • Tabernaemontana Divaricata tree can be as tall as 10 ft , but usually they are 5 – 6 ft.
  • 2 Types of pinwheel flowers are found , one has single blossom and another type is clustered
  • They grow very well under partial shade and needs moderate water .
  • This flower is used in many Pooja ( religious ceremony) like Lakshmi Puja.
  • It has some medicinal value in Ayurveda.
