Philippine Tarsier is an endangered species found in South East Asia.

  • They are not monkeys.
  • Close to Lemurs, Bushbabies and Lorises. Monkeys and Humans are anthropoid but they are prosimians.
  • Locally known as “mamag”, “magau”, “mago”, “maomag”, “malmag” and “magatilok-iok”.
  • Solitary lifestyles but sometimes they live in a groups.
  • Their tarsals bone (long ankle bone) help them to jump about 40 times of their body length.
  • Eyes weighs more than brain weight.
  • Largest eyes in relation to body and they give birth babies which is largest in relation to adult size.
  • Life span around 20 years.
  • Mothers carry their infant in mouth.
  • Food habit : insect , small frog, small poisonous snake, spider, small birds.
  • Their species are 45 million old.
  • Their length is about 90 – 150 millimeters and weights is 80 – 150 gm.
  • Breeding time – April and May and October and November.
  • IUCN considered them as Vulnerable or Endangered.
