Khardung La Pass meaning the ‘Pass of the Lower Castle’is located on the way from Leh to Ladakh.The elevation of the Pass is 5602 meters from the sea level.The Pass on the Ladakh range is the gateway to the Shyok and Nubra Valleys.Khardung La is very essential Pass lying on a troop street from Leh to Kashnagar.There is 39 km by road from Leh to Khardung La.Khardung La is one of the most popular tourist attraction.May- October is the best time for tourist.The nearest town of this Pass is Leh.

Construction work for the pass began in 1976 and was first opened in 1988.About 10,000 horses and camels navigated this road annually on their way to Kashgar in Central Asia.Hundreds of bikers take this road daily.Now It’s a two way road.This road is well maintained by Border Roads Organisation.It is consistent with numerous GPS reports.
