Coconut water has the property in itself to replace the human blood plasma. In Cuba it is being tested on 12 children the filtered coconut water is injected within the veins of these children of around one to two litres within 24 hours and no adverse reaction is reported.
In the time of World War II the British army along with Japanese and Sri Lankan army they used it as standard intravenous fluids to keep them healthy at the time of war though it was not medically proven that due to this reason they were healthy.
In 1954 three more researchers have experimented with it from different countries like Honduras, USA, and Thailand on 157 patients it is injected and out of them, only 11 patients reacted to it. These persons on whom the coconut water has been infused they have shown certain reactions like fever, itching, headache, tingling of hands. Some unprecedented patients also showed aching sensation along the veins. Thus it has been proved that coconut water can be substituted as human plasma.
Coconut water contains high levels of potassium and one fortieth of sodium level of plasma hence it is not suitable for kidney failure patients and severe burning cases.
On the other hand, it is suitable for emergency cases and not on regular basis.
