Clouds are heavier than they appear because it is calculated by the researchers that the average weight of the cloud cumulus is 500000kg (or 1.1 million pounds) now the question arises that why they look fluffy and soft. They look fluffy and soft because of the refraction of the light from the atmosphere and sun.
The clouds are made up of lot tiny water droplets which mean that they must have some mass. Further Research reveals that the density of water is ½ gm of water per cubic metre and these droplets are so big enough to accumulate two people to sit easily on it. The density of cloud is worked out in such a manner that it also varies widely.
The density of the cloud is estimated in the atmospheric research centre of US that it varies from place to place and the shape of the cumulus cloud is about a kilometre across roughly similar to that of the cube. So it is tall and wide. If we do a maths on that we will get that volume of the clouds is 1 billion cubic metres whose density is about 500000kg equivalent to 100 elephants.
Now it is a million dollar question that why it is not collapsing in our head the reason is that they are concentrated due to condensation in the atmosphere and hence they are scattered in the clouds in tiny droplets and hence they can float high up into the sky without any problem.
