Carowinds is an amusement park situated between Charlotte and Fort Mill bordering the Interstate 77 between North and South Carolina which was opened on March 31, 1973 by Cedar Fair Entertainment Company. It is built on an area of 398 acres costing to an expenditure of $70 million approximately. Its construction began with a view to build it like a big resort with hotels, shopping centers and a golf course along with a pro football stadium in it. It was named as Carowinds derived from the combination of two words- Carolina and Winds to symbolize the winds that are blown between the two states. It was primarily owned and operated by the Cedar Fair Entertainment Company and then by Taft Broadcast Company, Family Leisure Centers and Kings Entertainment Company respectively till the year 1993 when it was purchased by Paramount Communications and it became the member of the Paramount Parks family. Due to which it was renamed as Paramount’s Carowinds. Later, the Cedar Fair Entertainment Company bought all the Paramount Parks including Carowinds on June 30, 2006. It is divided into 8 areas each with a different themes and thrilling rides. The famous attractions of this park include Afterburn, Boo Blasters on Boo Hill, Carolina Cobra, Carolina Cyclone, Carolina Goldrusher, Drop Tower- Scream Zone, Hurler, Intimidator, Nighthawk, Rip Roarin’ Rapids, Scrambler, Screamweaver, Vortex and Wind Seeker. It includes the most popular water park named Boomerang Bay built on an area of 20 acres with an Australian theme and is inclusive of the official admission park charges. The most amazing feature of Carowinds is its Fast Lane which is a tacit queue system to avoid huge queues of visitors. This feature provides easy access to 14 most popular attractions of the park just by going through the normal lines. The park commences from late March and shut downs in the early November every year after the park’s most famous event called “Scarowinds”, an annual Halloween ceremony. It was announced by the Cedar Fair Company on August 26, 2013 that it would invest an amount of $50 million into the park for a period of 3 years beginning from 2014.
