Bonsai first invented in Japan and it is also a Japanese term which means planting tree in a tray (Bon – tray like pot and Sai – Plant). Though in Ancient Indian History there was a term Vamanatanu Vrikshadi means Science of Dwarf tree. Chinese also knew this science before Japan and they called it as Penjing.
To make Bonsai tree – you have to trimmed heavily and and place that tree in a pot that can adopt it’s miniature size.
